Chairman Of National Cotton Council Optimistic About Cotton Crop

As the saying goes, if you don’t like the weather in Texas, just wait a few minutes.

Despite the changing weather recently, or perhaps because of it, Eddie Smith of Floydada, who is the chairman of the National Cotton Council, is optimistic.

“I think South Plains growers here have an excellent opportunity for a good crop,” Smith told KFYO.  ” We’ve certainly had the moisture.  Now we’re getting the heat units in our crop we feel like are going to be necessary to produce our maximum potential, and I’m cautiously optimistic that we have an opportunity for a good crop.”

The National Cotton Council is hosting a conference for cotton growers and ginners Monday at Texas Tech.
