Neugebauer Talks About Rangel Accusations

During a visit to KFYO’s studio, Lubbock’s congressman talked about the latest scandal on Capitol Hill.

Former House Ways and Means Committee chairman Charlie Rangel has been charged with multiple ethics violations.  Congressman Randy Neugebauer was asked if Rangel should resign.

“Well, I think it depends on what the outcome of this is,” Neugebauer said.  “Some of these are pretty serious accusations.  He’s chosen to have a hearing, so I think we should let him do that.  You know, not paying your taxes, not reporting your taxes when you’re chairman of the committee that writes tax law in this country…the American people deserve better than that.”

The case now goes to an 8-member panel of Republicans and Democrats.  Depending on what the panel does, Neugebauer said Rangel faces possible penalties ranging from a slap on the wrist to being kicked out of the House.
