Recent news about the merging of several LISD schools is now being followed by talk of other schools possibly being closed. (
“The answer to that, very simply, is yes.”
That was the response of LISD superintendent Dr. Karen Garza, on KFYO, responding to a question about whether the merger of several schools in the district will be followed by the closing outright of other schools…
“Yes,” Garza said. “But it has largely to do with whether or not we have the capacity at other schools to receive the kids, and so we have limited capacity throughout system just because we have very small schools. They were built small. They were built for 250-300 kids.”
Garza said where there is the capacity and possibility of more mergers or closings, the administration and the board of trustees will consider those options.
