Thornberry’s Gold Star Parents’ Bill Passes House

Here is an update on a story we’ve been following for some time.

The House has unanimously passed a bill of interest to military families, a bill sponsored by a West Texas congressman.

Rep.  Mac Thornberry, whose district includes the Panhandle and counties east of Lubbock, is the chief sponsor of a bill that would expand access to State Veterans homes to parents whose son or daughter died while serving in the Armed Forces.  Those Gold Star Parents , as they’re known, currently receive care in veterans’ homes  if they have lost all of their children in service to their country.

“Any time you can put a little common sense into a law, it is a good thing,” Thornberry said after the bill passed the House.

The bill, which is supported by the American Legion and other veterans groups, now goes to the Senate.
