Local Players Selected in MLB Draft- 2:20p Update

Today, is day two of the three-day Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft in New York City.  Two Texas Tech baseball players were selected earlier today.  Pitcher Chad Bettis was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 2nd Round and Pitcher Bobby Doran was selected by the Houston Astros in the 4th Round.  Bettis’ second round selection is the highest for a Red Raider since Matt Miller was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the second round of the 1996 draft. 

Other notable selections include:  Lubbock Christian University catcher Joe Staley was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 8th Round.  Former Frenship High School and current Oklahoma State pitcher Tyler Lyons was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 9th Round.  Hereford High School pitcher, Parker Bridwell was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 9th Round.
