Lubbock City Council Passes Resolution Supporting Full-Scale VA Hospital for Lubbock

At their meeting this morning, the Lubbock City Council unanimously passed a resolution recommending a full service in-patient veterans hospital in the city of Lubbock.

The resolution, offered by District 3 Lubbock City Councilman Todd Klein, urges the facility to be opened as soon as possible.

As an alternative, the resolution also makes room for the possibility of an existing hospital facility offering hospitalization services to veterans at a cost similar to those at the Veterans Administration hospitals, the nearest of which are in Amarillo and Big Spring.

Lubbock has a VA outpatient clinic, but no facility that offers full scale hospitalization.

The decision to open a full scale veterans’ hospital would be made at the federal level, and Klein says that he’s received positive feedback from Congressman Randy Neugebauer on the issue.
