City Council Purchases South Lubbock Home

In a special meeting this afternoon, the Lubbock City Council voted to purchase a home on 98th Street in Southwest Lubbock that has been severely damaged by poor construction of a sewer line.  The home, by Elkhart Avenue, will be bought for just over $150,000.  The dirt underneath the home’s foundation has been sinking and damaging the building’s structure.  The city will tear down the home and dig up the foundation so they can reconstruct the sewer line and properly compact the dirt above the line.  Also, the city might have to purchase up to three more home sites in the area of 98th and Dover Avenue to fix the sewer line.
